Is it JonLumb who does the PC building thing?
I can't remember.
Anyway, could you let them know about this.
Got a friend who's currently looking for a basic PC.
Small form factor would be good. Just used for internet/email and word/excel etc... They would want Windows 7 (home probably) and MS Office Monitor (21" or smaller) and peripherals.
Their PC has just gone caput and they are looking at replacing it.
She is currently on the Next website looking at £600 C2D PCs and thinking it's a bargain?!
Budget is low, maybe a couple hundred if possible (monitor maybe not necessary).
Anyway, was thinking of asking whoever it is that has the company to provide a quote?
Thanks!

I think our very own John Sheridan of Northampton Computers fame also does PC building.

I've PM'd Oli
TBH, unless it's someone I know and the build is for a reasonably high end machine, it's just not worth it for me these days. Unfortunately even if it is a machine made to order from a tailored spec, it's still not classed as a customised item regarding Distance Selling, and it would only take one callous twat to completely ruin things.

It really isn't worth building low-end systems for someone when you can get stuff ready built with a 2 year guarantee for the same or less. If she does want something really small, then for about £150 you can get: http://www.ebuyer.com/267867-emachine-e ... -nbzec-004It's powerful enough for most jobs, and it's tiny. You'll need to put a proper OS on there though, maybe XP if she already has a suitable licence from her old PC?

Or failing that, you can use Windows.

I build all the PC's for the company I work for and build PC's to order for people who ask (do that on a "not for profit basis"). For work we are switching to mini-ITX systems using the i3 2100T processor (only 35w) paired with H67 m-itx mobo, 4Gb ram and 64Gb SSD - the case I have been using recently is one from X-Case as they are only in Milton Keynes - the case being this one http://www.xcase.co.uk/small-itx-case-p ... gt-850.htmThese systems are fine for general use but no good for gaming etc - by default I don't fit them with a DVD (has to be slim-line one anyways) as the office people shouldn't need them. If she is not fussed I will be disposing of the old PC's straight after the user has their new ITX one. They are midi-tower cases - lowest spec is C2D E6300 with Win XP Pro (which can always be stripped off for Win7 anyway), usually with DVD ReWriter, some sort of graphics card and some have modular PSU's. (One being pulled on Friday is housed in Antec 300 case). As a guide price I've been flogging them on eBay for £50. So she could have one of those for say £50, Win7 licence (around £77), keyboard (£10), Mouse (£10), Office 2010 Home (£77), monitor - something like Samsung E2220N for £95 - total £319

Ooh, that looks good. I think she has a monitor and other peripherals. I'll show this to her anyway, I'm sure she'll be interested. Thanks

Hi John, long shot but do you still have any of these old systems available?
Cheers Rich

Finished all the scheduled replacements .
Our warehouse has 2 computers so I am seeing if the directors want them changed also - they might do but then again they are E8500 systems and fine for what the warehouse needs.
Will let you know.
