http://www.macworld.co.uk/ipad-iphone/n ... 07&olo=rssThere are rumours of a widescreen iPad, so a bit like the iPhone 5 it will be wider 16:9 so will play widescreen movies without the need to letter box. So am I the only one who would love one?

I think it would start to be an awkward shape. I can see it as a phone, but as something that is more book-like in use, I don’t.

It depends on whether they keep the wide and make it longer or shrink it and make it thinner but the same length. Which might explain the iPad mini rumours? Personally I do not mind it being longer it does depend on how much longer it will be.

The iPad is not just for movies, it’s books, magazines, websites, drawing - a whole lot of stuff that makes sense if the screen display remains in or around the A or B paper sizes, simply because those are the most comfortable aspect ratios for either of those. I’m not even sure if a 16:9 screen would be more comfortable to use in such circumstances. It’s odd, but it’s the best use of the 4:3 screen aspect ratio I’ve ever seen.

I do watch a lot of films on my iPad. Mine is almost always in landscape mode anyway so. Though 4:3 suits a lot of TV programs, particularly older programs. Though I do fully accept that your reasoning and watching in letterbox is not a problem for me. It would be nice but not essential. Movies is a small segment of the market so this could just be a prototype to see if it can be workable.
