What is the current consensus: is the iPad2 now a good value tablet for a home/family device, mainly for use in the living room (video calling, bit of on-line tv/catchup, music, photos and some kids educational apps later on), or are you missing out on the speed/resolution making unthinkable to buy the old model - i.e. is the v4 worth the extra outlay over the v2, I hear it's a lot faster, but battery levels take a dive with the speed bump.

I'm assuming as Apple are still selling iPad 2s it would seem they'll be supporting them with updates for a while.

I feel no need whatsoever to upgrade my iPad2 to any of the others that have so far come after it.
It does what I bought it for perfectly well, so no need to fix wot ain't broke. (8+)

I will upgrade eventually as the high definition screen is handy for watching videos, but my iPad 2 is great for streaming TV and until TV is streamed in HD that is of a limited use. It is a very nice feature if you have more HD films from iTunes.

The iPad 3 I have was an upgrade from an original. I got it because I thought the retina display was stunning, and also because drawing apps benefit from more RAM - larger canvasses, more layers. I can happily print an A3 image drawn on my iPad.

I expect I'll give iPad 5 a miss, but may well look at iPad 6. I think the product has matured now, and really it's just processor bumps, battery improvements and tweaks to the form factor.
