I do sometimes think that the rumours are put about by people who want to see a feature in a game or device. They may have a vested interest in the story succeeding. I do not pay much attention to PC or games stuff as I do not really care. If it is a game I only really want to know the launch date and watch demonstration video. As for Apple there are masses of rumours and as fun as some of them may be I do not believe many of them. It makes the Apple Keynotes all the more interesting. Seeing what rumours were any close to the truth.

Why did he single out that cvg editor? It feels like there's a hidden agenda within the blog.

I think that' a fairly reasonable reason for talking about one specific person to be honest with you. Whether it's true or not I don't know but if Rob Crossley was the one person who acted like a dick, it's not vindictive or malevolent to mention it.
EDIT: Crossley has posted some things on his twitter feed which show a different picture. As it stands, we have no way of verifying which is the true version of events, it's one person's word against another.

But I could write that I sent a spam PM to everyone here, apologised and everyone forgave me except you because you are an effing and blinding son of a dog etc.

I would want evidence first.

We don't know who is telling the truth, we never will. Believe what you wish to believe.
