Quick question!

Is there such an adapter that will convert a new style Lightning port on a speaker system to an old-style 30-pin Dock Connector so that I can connect my older 4th generation iPod Touch to a new Lightning speaker dock?

I'm aware of the adapter Apple sell, but that appears to be the opposite to what I need! I'm guessing I need an adaptor with Female Lightning port at one side and Male Dock Connector at the other. Apple's is Female Dock Connector at one side and Male Lightning Port at the other.

The reason I want a Lightning port model is to future-proof it as much as possible. Pointless buying one with a Dock Connector on it, especially as I might change my iPod touch later this year - just holding on to see what they bring out in the Autumn.

Haven't seen one. In fact i haven't seen any 'female' lightning adapters at all. In terms of what you're wanting to connect though, that unit also has a USB port, can't you just use a USB to Dock cable (i.e. a standard charging cable) to connect your current device?

Yeah, that's looking like the only option, but I don't know if it'll charge the iPod touch over that port too? It's designed for the iPad 4 to connect, so it might, but the specs don't say. Hmm...

I could not find one either. No matter what you put in the search terms. I think that the apple solution is to buy a new iPod.

I see no reason why it shouldn't. There are apparently two USB ports and it'd be crazy not to supply 5v/1A to at least one of them. A PDF of the manual for that hifi can be found online, might be worth a look. Or take a cable & your iPod into the shop and ask them if you can try it out before you buy.

Heh, well I probably will later on in the year, but right now funds are limited until my redundancy money comes through - the Tesco voucher exchange means that I can exchange £45 in vouchers which double up to £90 off this unit, only leaving £30 to put to it - too good an offer to resist. Especially as I've ripped all my CDs now and have them in storage, so I needed something to play stuff on directly from my iPod. Plus the built-in DAB radio means I'll get more radio stations.

Well, I've downloaded the manual and it seems the top USB port does indeed supply 5V of power, enough to charge an iPod I reckon (probably not enough to charge an iPad). They had a display model in Tescos so I'm going to take along my iPod and cable and see if it works before I buy.

Well, I bought the Panasonic system, very pleased with it too. The iPod touch works fine in the top USB slot which will put me on until I can afford to replace it with a newer model after they launch the next updates in the autumn, then this will use the Lightning port on the slide out tray. It also charges the iPod when it's switched on too and the remote controls the iPod fine - need to try it out in the Apple USB Dock that I've got in the cupboard.

If anyone's interested, the sound quality is very pretty impressive on the Panasonic, especially for such a slimline unit. It has 4 EQ presets, plus separate bass and treble controls and a dynamic bass (on/off) and surround sound (on/off) - the latter isn't to my audio tastes so I've turned that off. The DAB radio is great quality and allows me to get more stations (I've really missed BBC 6 Music since we used to have it in work!).

With the £90 in Tesco vouchers, it only cost me £30, so I'm well pleased I went for it. Just need to save up for a new iPod now!

It is good to see club card vouchers actually doing something useful. Mine are accumulating as AirMiles.
