I thought I’d organise some thoughts on my street sign project, and I started using Pages because it will share with the iPad. I’ve been trying to get images (mostly screen shots) to line up with text in various places, but it just won’t do it. The anchor points seem to be somewhere near where I want them to be, but the mages themselves can be on a completely different page. These are inline, so they should flow with the text, but clearly this is not to be. Somewhat frustrated. I don’t usually use word processors - they aren't on the radar for what I do - so I’m not going to rush out and buy Word for this.

If you haven't got anything else I'd have a look at Belight's Swift Publisher. Surprisingly good for the price.

For anything hard core, I turn to InDesign. What I want here is just a way to organise some thoughts, and that includes embedding images in the text. It’s a series of notes and records, which I may (or may not) be able to turn into something more formal.
Right now, I’ve reverted to the previous version of Pages which, I am told, has far more going for it than the current version. I use word processors so little, that I don’t know enough about what is (or isn’t) there. Apparently, Apple crippled the more recent version of Pages to make it “easier”.
Normally, when basking out text, I use BBEdit. This time, though, I needed a little more to allow me to better organise stuff.

More a case of organising what I've done, results, findings etc. into sensible chunks. I'm documenting my street name plate project - a couple of academic types say that it needs to be done as I have something of interest. What this means in the long run is anyone's guess. One person is magazine editor when he's not teaching design and typography, the other is my ex-tutor form my university days. What this will give me is evidence of fact finding to accompany the collection of photos this had caused me to create. Beyond that, I don't know - but I may have enough then to pitch ideas to publishers if I want to take it further. I'm still seeing this as more interest than anything else, but others are apparently watching this from near and afar.

It's free... but generally considered to be a pale shadow of the Windows version (what a shocker).
