How do I sync iCal which I have already been using and is populated with events past and present that I'd need to keep with my new Google Calendar?

There seem to be plenty of instructions for getting iCal to work with an existing Google Calendar but nothing apparently for going the other way.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Edit: I'm running the last vernon of Lion on my Mac and have no plans to update it so the solution needs to work with what I have

Are you after a one off transfer or continued syncing? The former you can probably do by exporting your iCal calendar as an ical file then importing that into Google. Keeping things in sync after that requires some sort of third party tool I think.

I need continual syncing. I mostly enter new events into iCal on my Mac but I need to be able to see them on all my devices including my Android phone.

I had a quick look at some of the Android apps that claimed to be able to sync with iCal but all the ones I found had been discontinued.

Any ideas?

Oh, I had one when I used an Android phone that worked really well. Hold on a sec..

Smoothsync for Google Calendar

They have a contact syncing app too. Worked pretty well for me, that was up until about six months ago.

EDIT: Hold on, that doesn't do quite what you're asking for - it allowed me to access my iCloud calendar directly on my Android phone, not keep the two in sync. Would that be a possible alternative solution? Actually just use the iCloud calendar, but be able to view it on your phone as well?

Thanks! That appears to have worked.
