Well, if it's ADSL, that'd be your reason, it should be 1458.

Pipex were bought by Tiscali who were bought by CPW. The routing is now a mess, and the MTU in some cases has dropped as low as 1390. This final change happened about 2 weeks ago, and the recommended safe setting is now 1300.

It's worth a try, because the symptoms are much as you describe. I have customers who had the same issue.

Surely the ISP should know this is the issue and be able to advise accordingly?

If you bought your broadband from us, then it might well have been me answering the phone. Unfortunately, most other ISPs don't have any technical staff on first line support.
