Ok here goes...I just realised that since my upgrade to Snow Leopard, Aperture 1 no longer works. So I purchased myself an Aperture 2 upgrade...installed it but cant get it to work as I don't have my original Aperture key. Does anyone know if key is stored in some preference file somewhere so I can resurrect it. Don't ask me to go looking for my original Aperture packaging, I have searched and searched and I don't have it....I'm almost sure it has been dumped by accident....grrrrrr

Have you checked keychain?
I'm not sre if it stores stuff like that but that would be my first port of call.

I can't help. I have no idea where the pref is stored, and I went straight in to Aperture 2.
Hope you can sort it out.

Do you have a receipt or anything for the original Aperture? Maybe unlikely if you don't have the packaging. If you do, get on the phone to Apple and ask for a new key.

I thought I could find it registered with Apple online somewhere, but I can't, in fact I'm not even sure I registered it online, been so long since I had it. Keychain just stores passwords, not the keys. I don't know why the upgrade doesn't just automatically read the original key, check it then proceed. Looks like I'm going to have to purchase a full Aperture 2.

I think your best option is to contact Apple and let them know. From my experience with them I'm certain they'll be able to give you a key or something. Your Mac is sure to have registered it somehow online.

If you find you have to buy it in the end, Aperture 2 is significantly (like 66%) cheaper if you can get educational discount and order it from the Apple Store online. if it reaches that point let me know, I may be able to help you out . Jon

Yeah but the educational version is not upgradable...I have *ahem* borrowed a key from a friend, so all is working....
