Got a bit of a problem. My shiny new motherboard (Asus P6T), CPU and RAM (see sig) have suddenly stopped working.

All was fine, shut the machine down, went away for a few hours, came back booted up into Windows and it froze - complete hard lock, unresponsive everything but it didn't shut off.

Restart again, gets to the login screen and freezes.

Restart again and it says your overclock has failed (even though it wasn't overclocked)

Restart again, GPU fans spin up, it shuts off, starts again and the GPU fan stays at full speed and the board doesn't POST. Screen stays blank.

Tried removing all of the RAM to at least get it to beep at me saying there is no RAM and nothing.

Next I remove the battery and clear the CMOS, but now all the motherboard does is flick on briefly and then go off again.

This says motherboard failure to me. Then I dig out the PSU tester and the -5V light doesn't light.

This obviously has me worried that both the PSU and the motherboard are gone! Any suggestions???

Silly question but have you got an old PSU you can use to test the mobo?

I have but it only has a 4-pin P4 connection so it probably wouldn't work anyway.
It's just odd that it started freezing out of the blue. I'd have thought a faulty PSU would just shut off??

A faulty psu may produce some voltage (although ot the correct amount) or fluctuate the voltage.
It'll crash a PC but still appear to work.

First off, don't worry about the -5V light not coming on - it's not used in current PSUs (mine both do exactly the same). The thing I've found to cause problems with booting ar the SATA cables, especially if they're not of the locking variety. It's worth checking they're seated correctly.

What CPU are you running and what version of the BIOS?

Try reverting to a previous version or upgrading to a newer one. I had a similar problem as the one you're experiencing.



This is a safety feature if you've rebooted so many times.

Bit hard to update the bios with a reasonably unresponsive system - black screen, no bios, just fans running full blast, it used to beep, now it doesn't.
Glad the PSU thing is normal though.

Well, it has all gone back to Novatech now for testing. Boohoo!
