Hi all,
I've been toying with the idea of getting some web space, and Chips thread was a really good for me to see what you guys use.
I was talking to the purple one last night and she was saying how the inter-poll department had approached her to take photos at their Christmas Ball (yes, I know it's a while off). She said she wanted to create some form of site to browse photos and then sell them, so basically a gallery where you can select photos and then shove 'em in a basket and do transitions via PayPal or something...
Is this possible? I was thinking of using DreamHost as a host, would this work/be allowed?
OK, even if I can't do that, what I'd like to do is set up two domains on the same hosting plan, one for her, and one for me. They should be completely separate. Files will be stored in directories under our root directory (/him and /her if you will, and you, I know they aren't going to be in 'root' but you get the picture), and then two different names would somehow point to their respected folder?
Is that possible?
Thanks very much, Ben & The Purple One

Some hosts let you have multiple domains in one account with seperate root directories etc (I know my customers do)
If not you can just put a folder on one site & redirect the other site to that folder

How can I set up a basket/checkout system...And would that be allowed? Is it usually allowed or should I go and ask the hosting company?

Easiest way is a paypal basket, doesn't involve the host at all. After that you usually need an ecommerce site (about £20 a month) to make it work.

Just to clarify, that would be fine on Dreamhost.
They really don't care what you do with your plan, so long as it's legal. Personal site, business site, porn, whatever. They don't care.
I've got a fair few domains, and again, they couldn't care less. They make it really easy to set it all up.

Excellent, thanks for the confirmation Nick. I'm going to design a site for the purple one and myself, then will buy hosting. My thinking being that I shouldn't pay for something I'm not using...

You need to do a hosting application not just a domain one. It works (just done one myself and one for a mate)

Wow that's incredibly cheap. Might want to move this site over there SAS. The reliability is top-notch. Only joking lol this ISP is doing a good job.
