I just got an e-mail announcing that tomtom for iPhone has been released. It's 60quid which is quite a good price I think, considering the price of the stand-alone units. I assume it includes at the very least UK maps and is nice an accurate! I'm going to hunt for some reviews now!! Excited!!!  ::EDIT:: Oaky, turns out it's crap and should be avoided!!  _________________

I just read quite a few comments that basically said "it's great when it works. the only problem is it doesn't always work because it struggles to get reception".

Well, that is no surprise. Are they trying to use it inside, like inside a car? Reception will not be the best will it? Hence the cradle that TomTom are making with a much better aerial integrated into it. I won't be buying the software until the cradle is available. If I had a sports car then maybe… _________________A Mac user

I agree with CC. When I needed to use Google Maps on my old 'phone to find our location and direct my boss on where to go to get to the studio, I had to wind down the window and hold the 'phone outside the car to get a good signal. Inside the car, it was intermittent.
Does the iPhone use QuickGPS to regularly download its base position and the current satellite positions, to help speed up the initial position information?

wtf? That is SH*T!!!! I occasionally use Google maps in my car and it's fine. @CC: I didn't know the cradle had an arial integrated???? I'll have to wait for that to be released and then check out a review then.  I assume the cradle will handle charging and hopefully double up as a hands-free. _________________

Yeah, I've used Google Maps in a friends car, and it's been fine, even down 'ere in deepest darkest Devon.

GPS reception depends on the car or more precisely the front windscreen.
Some cars like my old 306 have a tint on the windows that is actually a thin coating of metal rather than plastic. This kills GPS signals.
Some Fords also have heated front screens which block signals as well.
