But then a game rendering OpenGL scenes is going to nom much more go-go juice than a game that just has to take an occasional input from a user, process it, redraw the screen and repeat... /devil's monkey

I have a charger at work so I charge it there and when I am leaving work my phone is fully charged. So for me, "to last a whole day" actually means from leaving work in the evening until getting back in the morning. Plus I have a spare battery for a long days out, especially when GPS is needed...

I was walking / tubing around London so there were few opportunities for charging. If I'm in the office, then I don't really need it anyway. I have a PC and a desk phone. In the car I have a charger, so it's less of an issue.

Does nobody else find it annoying that portable devices need continually juicing though? Surely the whole point of a portable phone, is that you can take it places away from mains power and still use it for a while...

+1 My DSLR lasts ages on a charge - it's not been actually used for three months, but the battery is still nearly full. My iPod lasts ages, and gets a full charge once a fortnight or so. I think battery life for smart phones will have to improve. If makers keep converging more stuff into the tiny boxes, they have to get better, or folk will begin to complain.

I do mind but it is all about the trade off. I don't get the long battery life but I do get the smart aspect of my phone. I could go back to a dumb phone with long battery life but I don't want to...

Agreed. When you're carrying around a very small computer that also does phone calls then you have to accept it'll need charging more than a POS nokia that can make phone calls and if you're lucky text on a very small screen

Why? Surely if they just put bigger batteries in them, that wouldn't HAVE to be the case?!

Indeed. And why does not being a status symbol make a Nokia a POS?

I've mentioned in another thread the need to charge my new phone every night but strangely it seems to be getting better! I had it in the house all day yesterday so left wi-fi and synch turned on and with normal useage (a bit of browsing, facebook, texting, etc) the battery meter was only one notch away from full when I went to bed. Although as someone else said I dont mind the trade off. My phone will last a full day (including browsing and stuff) so that's good enough for me. I jut leave my charger by my bed and stick it on every night.

I'm failing to see the problem there. They're [LIFTED] massive compared to a regular phone anyway.

So imagine how big they'd be with an even bigger battery

Mine too. There was an update a couple of days ago, and perhaps it's a coincidence but the battery life seems to have tripled since that.

Oh yeah I forgot about the update. It said it fixed some performance and camera issues IIRC.
