It might be "old tech" but it still packs a punch.

The i3 and the e8xxx C2Ds are still some of the best gaming CPUs around.

I've gone and looked at the spec (hadn't done with previous comment) and certianly things like the 460 aren't shabby at all.

But not cheap enough to warrant the performance sacrifice when compared with Sandybridge.

Depends on your budget, an i3 is going to be around £100 cheaper than SB.

That "top line" chipset is old hat. The 8series with 850 southbridge provides USB3 and SATA6gig.

I've just priced an extremely tasty system with no scrimping on "cheaper" components and it weighs in at £730 inc. VAT and delivery from Scan. That's an Asus H67 board, 2400, 4gig, Sammy F3, 1gig 460, Antec Truepower 650w, Fractal R3, Plextor burner and OEM 7 x64

However, I think we really need more info from the op as to the kind of games that are likely to face this machine. The GPU is a large part of any machine, budget-wise, and could be reduced depending on reqs. Also, If I was buying something that had to last 5yrs, I would be focussing more on quality PSU and case than anything else. All of these factors affect recommendations....

Remind me who uses SATA 6GB/s - not even SSDs make use of anywhere near its capabilites and won't do for several generations.
Same with USB 3.0 - I know about 1 person who I'm affiliated with on the PLANET that uses USB3.0.

"No scrimping on "cheaper" components" yet uses a H67 chipset, a 2400 cpu (and let's face it, no point to SB unless you get the K series so can overclock the nuts off it), and a gpu that isn't nearly as powerful as the one I specced, especially not for dual or more monitors.
There's something else, its £70 overbudget.

If you insist on SB, do it correctly, such as this for the same price as your "extremely tasty" build:

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
(£158.32) £189.98

MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
(£112.49) £134.99

Foxconn P67A-S Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge)
(£83.32) £99.98

BenQ G925HDA 18.5" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black
(£62.49) £149.98

Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXUK)
(£54.16) £64.99

G.Skill RipJawX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL) £41.99
(£34.99)

Akasa Raptor Gaming Case - Black
(£32.49) £38.99

Sub Total : £600.75
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
DPD Next Day Parcel
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £12.50
VAT is being charged at 20.00% VAT : £122.65
Total : £735.90

No, it doesn't have W7 - but OP has a spare copy, or I assume he would have stated otherwise :P And has 2x monitors as specified.

OP, can I ask why you want 2 monitors? Especially ones of such small size?

For it to last 5yrs, SATA6gig and USB3 would be essential in my view. Overclocking is not. Not for the vast majority of people out there, especially with such a fast stock chip. P67 offers no advantages to the "normal" user, neither does the K chip.

Anyway, like I said, more information is required really.

Can't say I agree with the rest of that - especially seeing as you can pick expansion cards for SATA6 and USB3.0 up for £20 each, and overclocking is a great way to extend the life of a system performance wise - however I do agree with the quoted statement.

Definitely need more info, such as uses, why he needs two monitors and if he has copy of OS.
