My E8500 has done 4.2GHz today at 1.35v.

Just about, anyway. 8-)

Bah, my new i7 is doing 4GHz easily at less than 1.3v. Tempted to go higher although channel A on the board is knackered.

ok then, heres the dealio...

took down the multiplier to six, changed the FSB to 425 (would give me 3.8GHz on 9x multi), couldnt get it stable with any combination of voltages. the highest i went was:

core: 1.36
vtt: 1.31
MCH: 1.33
ICH: 1.65
GTLREF: 63% (stock)

so, what im at now is: all voltages returned to stock, except core which is 1.30, fsb is 419 which gives me a core speed of 3.771GHz

ive been debating with myself whether or not to push NB voltage any higher, but i dont really want to fry this kit, id quite like it to last until i can get my mitts on nehalem, which could be a while

Having NB @ 1.33v is ok, you can go higher, even 1.45v shouldn't be a problem. Just watch how it scales when you increase voltage. When you need large increase in voltage to gain little bit in FSB it might be worth stopping. Remember, it is all about the balance. Also watch you temps, anything above 65C is not desirable. Pointing a fan at it will help...

hm,i must be doing this man thing wrong, cos im right back where i started

even with 1.41v NV and 1.35v VTT, i still couldnt get over 419 FSB without IBT failing. rrrr!

i think it must be a cooling issue rather than a voltage issue, NB heatsink is boiling!!! no spare fans atm, but will try to pick up a 40 or 60mm to heath robinson on there some time soon :)

It might be worth checking what other people can do with your board. P35 chipset, especially on budget boards is not exactly stellar overclocker.

You should also know that you can have have too much voltage on your NB. I don't know how you did your 1.41v but you should not go from 1.33v to 1.41 in one go. Increase it by 0.10v in steps. Is 1.33v default NB voltage? I would be very suprised if raising voltage wouldn't produce any improvement in terms of FSB, even a small one...

hi guys, long time no post, but i recently decided to have another stab at overclocking :)

i think my problem was with my motherboard mis-reading my RAM SPD, as when i set them to the vales obtained using memset i hit 4GHz almost instantly. and thats where im sat now, happily running Prime95 for 7 hours today :D

vital stats include:
CPU - 4.005Ghz, 1.4v (1.38v actual, 1.34v including vdroop) 445MHz fsb x 9
RAM - 890 MHz 2.1v 5-5-5-15 42-8-3-3-3 latencies
NB - 1.29v (1.33v actual, i think my BIOS is a little weird)
VTT - 1.23v (1.13v actual, see above comment)

all other voltages stock :)

currently hitting 75DegC Tcase after a few minutes of IntelBurnTest or Core Damage, which is just above the Intel thermal specification, as such im not keen on raising it much higher :?

so, what do you guys think? did i do well on my first real attempt at overclocking? should i stop being a pussy and ignore the Intel thermal spec?

*EDIT* although, i am currently getting crashes in both Team Fortress 2 and Crysis, which i now think may be due to my Graphics card OC, specifically the ROPs. I will run FurMark for an hour tonight with 8xAA and high resolution and see what that drags up :)

*EDIT 2* ok, its not the GPU, backed it off about 20% and still crashes after 20 minutes, so far ive confirmed its not my CPU, RAM, GPU, northbridge, southbridge or VTT... i dont think theres a lot left :(

*EDIT 3* haha, maybe it was the CPU, bumped it up to 1.42v in BIOS and its now stable running FurMArk and IBT on high for about half an hour, will give Crysis a shot in the morning, i have homework to do atm :(
