Here here. I know why this is being done this way, but I really don't see it as viable any more. Portable USB storage is now getable for buttons - I could happily carry my entire music collection on a single USB stick no bigger than my little finger which would cost about 20 quid. if they wanted to 'play nice' then say you can only sync to a copy of itunes that has been authorised with the same itunes account but the blanket ban is now a pointless pain in the rear. Especially now they've removed the DRM from all their content anyway. Jon

I don't really get the home-sharing thing..
If i'm listening to music on my laptop in the kitchen streaming it from my Mac in my room... then why do I need to drag it over? Surely streaming it is fine?
And also I can't seem to be able to use any networked music unless it's on an "authorised" computer. Which is a bit ghey... Maybe it's just my screwy network, but the "Angelic's Library" doesn't appear until the computer is authorised.
Pain in the arse really because i've got 3 laptops and a PC that stream from my Mac, which means that I can no longer share my library with housemates.
Again, probably just the screwy network.
Anyways I like the new itunes. The genius mixes are great, shame they can't be synced with an ipod. The itunes U is pretty awesome too, i've been learning about ancient Greece and Rome =p

AFAIK the only iPods with genius Mixes are the nano and the touch (and I'm not certain about the touch).
It's actually sold as a feature of the iPod if it's available. It definitely isn't on the classic (even the new one).

iTunes 9 f*cked my iPhone the other day.
Took quite a while to sort out. At first it was giving an error when syncing and no music was available in the iPod application, so I rebooted the iPhone and restarted iTunes and exactly the same happened. Completely reset the iPhone through iTunes and still the same effect.
Took quite a while to sort out, but it's working okay now.
I just synced up individual items. Apps only at first, and that was fine, then apps and music and that was fine. I can live without photos and ringtones syncing so I've left it for now. Seems to be syncing just apps and music fine now which is cool. When there is an update I'll see if it's fixed, because now whenever I tell it to sync everything it f*cks the phone.

Hmm, not had any problems with sycning. I have had a problem with my iPhone continually bricking itself. Told them to replace it this time, as opposed to not bothering to repair it...

The problem with that is the DRM will not allow you to sync from multiple machines. Even if you do not want to do that the music business assumes that you do.

What DRM? I don't have any DRMed music, and would be happy if it only let me sync DRMed music from one machine... It is picking up podcasts, apps etc. that I want to work from any machine.
To be honest, I've had my iPod/iPhone since June and I've listend to 3 music tracks on them...

The DRM that stops the iPhone being synced by more than one machine. It wipes the phone/iPod if attached to the wrong machine. I have mainly DRM free music and podcasts and the same would apply to me.

It's not based on the content so I'm not sure I'd call it DRM per se. It's a restriction for non-technical reasons, yes. Jon

I would not know what to call it. DRM seemed appropriate as it was a way of stopping music being transferred.
