Yep, the only advantages XP Mode has are that you don't need an XP Pro licence (you can't virtualise XP Home) and that the apps integrate into the Windows 7 menu.

I've been using it for a bit here, and I must say it's slow almost to the point that it's unusable. And this is with a decent-specced PC. I tried Motocross Madness 2 (a awesome game that doesn't work right on 7) and it was almost unplayable. There's still no video acceleration (unlike VMWare or VirtualBox) and it only lets the VM have 512mb.

Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of virtualization, but if you want to run XP apps, you'd be better off dualbooting XP, or just not bothering updating to 7 and stick to your XP installation.

Yes, I do like to say it like it is. :)

You're not the first person I've heard say virtualisation can be sluggish.

TG Motocross 2 works fine on my Win7 rig.

Which is why XP Mode only comes on Pro/Enterprise/Ultimate, it isn't designed to run games (see my earlier comments), so they don't include it with Home Premium, because most people would try and run games with it and complain.

Also I believe the default RAM config for XP mode is 256MB so you may need to reconfigure that in the console.
