I'm also gonna be attempting this sort of thing, although I'm not expecting BD/DVD playback as I have a hardware player. Mostly streaming stuff, .mkvs, and music. Can anyone tell me why neither my desktop or laptop will display on my new TV using a DVI to HDMI cable? They both run XP Pro, is that the problem? Or is it old GPUs (both nVidia 7 series)? Really stumped. Can't even use my bloody desktop and that's the main point! I don't want to be squinting at a 17" square monitor on the floor

When you dual-head, does it actually show the second monitor in the settings? What resolution have you set on the DVI port? I know a lot of TVs won't accept 1366x768 from a PC over HDMI, they will only display 1280x800, expanded to fill the space...  Is it a 720p or a 1080p set? Edit: Just downloaded a 720p 60fps demo from the internet and played it back on the new Toshiba Tecra that turned up today. Full screen, using Media Player, it played back using 7-13% CPU on a 2.2Ghz C2D mobile processor. Scaled up on my Tecra (1680x1050 15" display), with a 2.8Ghz processor, it was also around the 10% mark. Both machines have the HD4500 chipset.

It says "Toshiba TV" on my laptop and I can set the resolution to 1920x1080, but I can't get a picture out of the thing. It's a 1080p set (XV635). Getting pissed off now! My mate has a cheap laptop with a HDMI out and his Sammy 37B550 (also 1080) works fine, just plug the cable in. This sort of [LIFTED] is what makes people wanna use Apple products

I guess you have already checked, but have you checked that you have selected the right source on the TV? Being DVI to HDMI, maybe it isn't auto-selecting the channel, because of missing information in the signal? XP Pro & 7 series GPU's don't support HDCP so you may find your TV is set to reject the signal. You may also need to enable HDTV resolutions in the nvidia control panel to get the correct refresh rates.

Interesting, thanks. I didn't think HDCP would be a problem, as I don't intend to watch Blu-Rays from my PC. Def a possbility though I suppose. I'll check the nVidia control panel. It would be a shame for my new TV to have to go back, as the Blu-ray picture is superb. Out of interest, where does HDCP support start with GPUs? I have Win7 in the box, but have been saving it for the new PC I new to build in the next couple of weeks.

HDCP starts with the 8 series. Could you not use VGA in?
