AAAAAARRGH!!

That reminds me, I need to go and post in the other thread.

I thought I’d have a go myself, and I cracked on with it a bit last night. A lot of the damage across the face means that any of us will have to make up stuff.



This is obviously a work in progress at the moment - there are places I am not happy about. It looks a bit smooth across the nose, for example, but that’s a complete fabrication on my part. It will need “noise” from other parts of the picture dropped on to make seem less painted on, I think.

It will be interesting to see how others approach this, and what we all end up with. A Curious project from the Cat.

I've been working with the clone tools in Photoshop, and various pressure levels and brush sizes. The right cheek and bit under the nose needs a bit more work, but it's coming along nicely.

I'm gonna give it a go. There's no point me uploading yet as I've hardly tackled the major bits yet - I'm focussing on the easier things first

I think there's a bit of refinement still to do, but it's a fine line between overdoing it and knowing when to stop tweaking.

The only things I can think of is to introduce a level of noise into the areas which has been reconstructed - her right/our left cheek for instance.
Good job though!

Edited to add - also the area under her arm does, I think, need to be darker. I appreciate it's almost entirely constructed, but I think having it darker makes more sense. I'd imagine it to be fabric, not the background.

I haven't done any contrast or other adjustments yet. I agree there are some areas that still need tweaks.

The cheek is strange. I used the clone tool to fill everything in, and lifted most of it from the other cheek. There's little texture actually in there, but I'm not entirely happy with the result. I think a bit of airbrush work and noise will need to be done.

The nostrils, chin and neck were probably the hardest bits to sort out. I guess another hour will see it better.

I'm really stunned at how well it has turned out. And I don't mean that in a bad way at all, just that I didn't think it was possible.

How long did it take you, out of interest?

Phew. Well, I guess it was about 5 or 6 hours altogether. I won't scare CC with how much that would have cost if I was going to charge for it.

I was mentally clocking up $ signs when I saw that near complete image, wondering just how long it had taken. I'm very impressed, well done.

My effort looked like Marge Simpson, but I'm sure that was because I was using MS Paint and nothing to do with my artistic talents. We charge about £50 an hour, which would make my effort worth about £25. It wasn't worth it

here’s what I’d think of as final, or very near final:



I’ve tried to keep the texture of the original image - so I’ve kept in some of the smaller, less obvious cracks in the paper and emulsion. Anything more, and I feel you are entering painting/artwork. Obviously, I’ve had to invent a lot of the nose and face.

I’ve used a Photoshop filter to add grain to the image, which I hope is restoring in some of the noise which has been lost in the inevitable over painting and cloning in some areas of the picture.
