+1 All my keyboards have the @ on the 2 key, only my Mac has a £ symbol though... As I've said before, I've got an early 1900's typewriter, designed and made in the UK, and the @ is on the 2 key.

My G15 has it the other way around, as did the keyboard before it...and the one in work come to think of it.

One is american, one is UK.
If you've got an American keyboard, set the keyboard settings to American. And vice versa.
I would go into how to do that under Windows, but that wouldn't really be a help here >.<

You'll get used to it and once you trip on it you'll be thankful. As mine is in the living room mostly, mates always don't seem to look where they're going and it's saved my MBP many many times. I wasn't too keen on the iMac but when I saw one in the flesh at John Lewis, changed my mind. Solid build great screen, love it. Want one.

I'm aware of that! Would have been nice if they'd put a UK keyboard on a UK mac though.

Is there a £ sign over the three? Then it's a UK keyboard.

There is a reason Crucial ram is cheap, its crap. Crucial is just a brand name of Micron and the stuff they seem to sell and undercut everyone else really is lowest common denominator stuff. If you look at their expensive stuff, like Ballistix you really do pay more for it to get the better stuff. If you want 'cheap' ram, go with Corsair they 'ironically' use Micron IC's too but not the stuff that Crucial are pumping out for peanuts. Corsairs more expensive ram tends to use the same as Crucials more expensive though or sometimes other makes like Quimonda or Samsung. Crucial bog standard ram is like Sainsbury's fuel, does the job, and that is it, its not the best stuff out there and can be false economy. Go with Corsair Value select if you want 'cheap;, also NOBODY beats Corsair customer service, they would literally come to your house and cook you dinner they are so good. http://forums.macnn.com/65/mac-pro-and- ... ng-kernel/Just another page of stories about people who thought they were getting a deal by going to Crucial and saving cash. Crucial may have a liftime warranty, but so what when you have to go through the motions of RMA'ing it in the first place. Samsung Own branded, OCZ, Kingston, the non Budget Crucial and Corsair are the sensible options.

When I bought my G4 PowerBook, I bought it with a Kingston RAM upgrade. It took me three attempts (random freezes, kernel panics, the works) before the vendor agreed to give up and refund my money.
I went to Crucial and it worked first time.
So, it may be Sainsbury's cheap, but it doesn't crash my machine.

Not being rude, but obviously not every set they sell is dodgy otherwise they'd have gone out of business. Why when someone questions the value of a certain brand does someone always have to post 'oh mine is ok?' How does that help the people who DID have problems ?
Of all hardware and components some go wrong, even the premium grade stuff, its just some goes wrong more than others.

I always use corsair, but it's true, every manufacturer can pump out a faulty batch and RAM by it's nature is a fragile beast, so there's always a chance it was damaged in transit by an errant static buildup.

Thing is, the 2.0 ghia is no better to my granny than the 1.6.
If you NEED the performance offered by more expensive ram then the cheap Crucial stuff is not for you. But many people don't.
I have used crucial RAM exclusively on the network I look after for 10 years. Sure I have had one or two Kernal panics in that time but I am hardly running around restarting machines all day.
I think your statement "There is a reason Crucial ram is cheap, its crap." is simply not true, at least not in my experience.
Of course, YMMV.

Congrats to Gav on the new MBP.
I read about the first page and a half, then skipped to the end...
I would say go with the iMac or the MBP - the latter offers more flexibility, because it is portable.
The Mac mini is more hamstrung in terms of upgrades than the iMac and MBP - it can have a max of 4GB RAM and, unless they've updated it, it couldn't see all 4GB. The new MBPs and iMacs can all see 8GB RAM. Not of real importance today - 4GB is the minimum I would specify a new machine with these days, but the option of going to 8GB gives you more options for extending the life of the device.

It's called balance. I tend to do that when confronted with someone's experience which doesn't correlate with my own.
