Very unimpressed with the full width tabs in Safari 6. I guess this is part of the ossification - sorry! - iOS-ification process, but I miss the ability to double-click some empty tab space to create a new tab.

It's also effing useless. 'Your redemption code has already been used'.

what a bunch of clowns.

Story seems to be that they reset the system after the 'up to date' page went live prematurely, but when they reset it they didn't mark all the codes they had previously sent out as already used. So when the page went properly live, it just sent out the same codes all over again. And of course those codes had all already been used by the people who got them early.

Clowns. And not the ones with the squirty flowers either. The crap ones who only get to drive the car that falls apart.

Just discussing this on another forum and the poster had the emails with the code in, tried to use it on the App Store and it was rejected like yours. He rang Apple and was told...

I got fed up and 'phoned Apple Support.

Apparently there is a wait of up to 72 hours from the time you get your Claim Ref. to the time when you are given the O.K. to download your free Mountain Lion.

So I'll just have to sit back and wait!

He also said that when I get the final O.K. I might well be told that my code has already been used in which case I have to go back to Apple and request a new one!

It makes me feel like paying the £13.99 for ML and forgetting the free update.

There's also an email address you can contact to voice your concerns...
Quote:
A few folks on the MacRumors forums have contacted AppleCare regarding this issue. They've either been told to try entering the code again, or wait for another redeem code to arrive in their inbox.

Another way to register your grievance is to mail uptodatesupport@apple.com , with your claim number and the error being shown to you.

HTH, Jon!
Bit of a farce really, isn't it?!

The most appropriate one for the UK is the one in listed in the original email which is uptodatesupport-uk@apple.com. I've already had a reply from them, we'll see if they get me a fresh code that actually works.

Yes, yes it is. Thanks for the help :).

Just got another 2TB drive for Time Machine (long overdue really) and backing up the machine before sticking ML on it.

Anybody know if the up-to-date link and redemption codes are working now? I've been holding off on sending the link to someone I know that qualifies because of the problems that's been reported.

Mark

Haven't seen my promised second code yet. I'd give it a couple more days frankly.

UPDATE: Just received a working code. Given there's likely to be a three day backlog of those to run though, I think you'd probably still be best advised to wait until Monday, if you've no pressing need for ML.

The process is supposedly quicker if the hardware was bought direct from Apple (same day if so, 2-3 days if not), so you'd maybe also consider if that's the case.

Jon

That's 1.2 billion, right?
Am I reading that correctly?

Yes, as in 1.2Gb or 150MB per second.

That's more than 10x the maximum throughput of our web server.

Akamai must be doing the business for Apple this week.
Blimey.

Well, updated to ML. Time Machine took ages to do it's thing last night, and it's currently churning away with the various updates.

I'll take a little while tweaking the various system settings, but broadly, I like it.
But, holy cats! What have they to Contacts and Calendar? Eeew.

I'm sure I've not much to add that hasn't already been whinged about in Lion - one question I do have though is the automatic application restore thingy. How can I turn this off?

You didn't use Lion did you? Those two apps have marginally improved from their Lion versions...

Yes you can. It's in the 'general' control panel. The option you're looking for is 'close windows when quitting an application'.
