I finally got round to running the CPC benchmark.
At 4.2GHz, my score has jumped nearly 200 points. The only change to my system, since the last time I ran the test, is the SSD. The major increase is in the multitasking score, my PC scored pretty low originally.

After more reading, I'm annoyed to find that these things can't be flashed with new firmware without losing the data stored on them. Does that not strike anyone else as rather gay? I think I may be waiting a little longer for prices to fall and the tech to mature.

Only some models require a drive wipe, the G.Skill Falcon for one. The 1819 firmware update for the M225, should add TRIM support without wiping the data. Crucial sensibly recommend that you make a backup anyway.

I didn't know that either, it's definitely something that should get more coverage IMO...

Quite. Dead to me for now. Let's let Win 7 bed in a little and wait for the tech to mature in the new year. I CBA with all the hassle to keep the thing running at full whack. TRIM doesn't appear to be all it's cracked up to be yet, from what I've read. I'm not in a rush.

Was nice to meet a fellow forum member. I've just got home and stuck the QX9650 straight into my main rig for now, starting off tentatively at 3.8GHz. It goes like a dream. A pleasure doing business with you. Regards Spreadie

I really would like that Icybox, I shall speak to the oracle in the morning and see if she'll release some more funds. Can't get the CPU past 4.18GHz at the mo, my board tops out at 465 FSB, and the bloody thing doesn't support unlocked multipliers, despite Abit's claim that it supports the CPU. I'll have a go with the DS5 board tomorrow, probably. I'll have to re-pipe my WC loop.

Just built a desktop for my girlfriend, using a 64GB Crucial M225 as the HDD. Otherwise it has very mid-range components, a second-hand E6300 (thanks to JohnSheridan - it works great!) and 2GB DDR2-800, with GMA 3100 going the pixel crunching. She doesn't need much storage, the entire contents of the C: drive on her laptop are under 40GB. However, for everyday and office use it kicks the ass out of my overclocked gaming PC with 3.8GHz dual-core, 4GB RAM and a WD caviar blue HDD. I now medically need one myself...

I'm now officially an SSD fanboy, but the price hikes over the last week or two would probably scare me off.

Only just seen your reply, so obviously the link you provided is a week old, but it lists the 64GB M225 at £192 - thats what I meant about being scared off by the price hikes, my 128GB M225 was £219! They really are taking the piss IMHO.
