Maybe. For me, it Just Works. I bung a CD in the machine, iTunes rips it and spits the disc out again. I don't care where it's filed the music, or how it's organised it. I just play it, and transfer it to my iPod. I occasionally need to use the iTunes UI to catch any duplicates that have crept in (I buy a fair number of compilations, so it's bound to happen from time to time). I use the iTunes UI to edit titles, add search tags, create playlists and whatnot. All the stuff normal people want to do. Apple must surely test the software on Windows before they release it. I have no clue as two why some folk have such problems with it, but it obviously happens.

Not as stringently as they do on Mac, and besides, as long as it mostly works, what do they care how slow it is? Plus there are so many more possible hardware and software conflicts on a Windows PC they obviously don't bother testing all the combinations. Where of course, that's not a possibility on Mac. I think you had it right earlier. It could well be their cack-handed way of trying to get people to buy a Mac! I'm well aware that I'm not the average user, but I'm not nearly nerdy enough to run Linux. So I guess I'm somewhere in the middle and that's never a good place to be from a marketing/product development point of view.

Running Linux is a piece of p*ss - very little nerdiness is required for the normal things.

Well Jim, if you're in Cornwall before I leave, you can enlighten me. I'd probably find it easier to use iTunes. And no Alex, not sandals. Beards are up for debate!

You ever installed Windows? You know when you boot from the Windows disk? Use a Linux install disk instead.

You laugh, but I tried Ubuntu about 3yrs ago, when Dell started offering it. It refused to work. And I've installed Windows just a few times. After 3 attempts, I gave up and haven't returned. And JJ, I'm letting the beard happen then!

I tried it about three years ago and it was a nightmare. It's really very good now.

In all fairness, it was a long time ago, and it was literally no GUI and all command line stuff.

I'm trying to remember which version of SUSE i tried to install, (back in the nineties) where half way through the installation, the text started switching back and forth from English to German and back again for no apparent reason.
