What's this talk of 'international' iPhone 5? Sorry to be asking any dumb questions, but I've been really busy with work the past couple of days and I've not had any time to properly catch up on all the news.

Agreed. One of the US carriers is actually advertising 'unlimited' 4G data but I assume there is a data cap of some sort in 'not taking the piss' terms. But if you actually are downloading at 100Mb/s, a gig cap isn't going to last you very long at all. I think it depends if the carriers are going to use this as a play to get into the 'home' broadband market. LTE is actually a viable alternative even to cable or FTTC broadband - maybe not for the hardcore multiplayer gaming crowd but for everyone else - and if the carriers decide to start selling what are effectively 'home mifis' to replace Virgin or BT entirely, they're going to have to offer similar data caps to people's current home broadband.

Going by what this page, A1429-CDMA will support lots of bands (2100MHz, 1800MHz, 850MHz, 700cMHz, 1900MHz) but that is a non-GSM phone so is pretty much a brick over here in places where there is no 4G coverage. The Eurasian iPhone (A1429-GSM) supports 2100MHz, 1800MHz and 850MHz. The Ofcom auction is for 800MHz and 2600MHz.

Oh great. The source I read got them the wrong way round . Yeah, from that EE are going to be the only people doing an LTE iPhone 5 in the UK. what a malarky.

The only way I can see anyone else getting in on it without a hardware upgrade is by buying some bandwidth off of EE, and I can't exactly see that one happening.

Went to the Orange shop in Harrogate this morning and paid £25 (as a pre-payment) to put myself in the queue for the black 64GB iPhone 5 I was apparently the first one to pre-order so I can go anytime next Friday to pick it up Woop woop!

It is an Americanism. The rest of the world gets 1 iPhone, which works everywhere. In America, they use such diverse and non-compatible systems, that each carrier needs a tailored iPhone for their network. The exception being AT&T, which is 90% compatible with the rest of the world, you would be able to use a "normal" iPhone on it, but probably certain functionality wouldn't work properly or the speed wouldn't be as high as a native AT&T iPhone.

Yep, I'll be on EE and using 4G when it's available.
