It used to be the way you take better pictures is you learn to be a better photographer. You get bigger cameras, bigger lenses, you learn about all the techniques of light meters and gels and filters, and you can spend your lifetime learning how to take advantage of this and make it work for you.

For the people who want do that, that’s great. For most of us, we just want to take a picture, and have the iPhone take a better picture for us.

I'm not sure he's saying that. The line 'For most of us, we just want to take a picture' suggests to me the point is all that stuff is required if you want to take professional looking photos but most of the time most people don't want or need professional looking photos, they're just taking 'snaps'. For 'snaps' you want a camera system that prioritises removing as many of the obvious defects as possible - the things that in-built colour correction and stabilisation and the like do. They don't give you the artist's vision or the professional's dedication, they don't pick the best angle or know about how aperture affects depth of field and the effect that can have on a shot, but they do mean the shots you take won't be ruined because of some basic shortcoming. I think for a phone camera, that's the most people can reasonably expect.

Hmm.. I may consider the 5c colours to be awful but it occurred to me while sitting in a queue of traffic this morning that also in the queue (to be fair, it was quite a big one) there were at least two cars of each of the colours that they're offering the iPhone 5c in. If not identical colours then ruddy close. And they were all cars of a certain type - new beetles, Fiat 500's, that kind of thing.

There's obviously a market for pastel coloured things, even if it's not me.

And then they'll use one of those filters, or Instagram, to put them back! :-D

Do you think that Google Glass will have instagram features built in to make real life more retro? ;)

Has anyone watched the 5c advert?
http://www.apple.com/iphone-5c/videos/#video-product

It's quite... hyperbolic

At least if you are bored on a long journey, you can play Connect 4 with your neighbour using the case.

Why is Jonny Ive speaking like he's a bit, well, simple? Or have they just slowed it down? Craig, in the second half, sounds like he's on speed in comparison to Jonny!

It's fair to say Johnny Ive, while apparently a bit of a genius, is also a bit... odd. Have a search for his appearance on Blue Peter when they gave him his gold badge, it's one of the most disconcerting things I've seen on TV in quite some time.

I saw that. They tried to get him to comment on some kids’ designs for gadgets. He could have been a bit more enthusiastic.

You’ll notice in the video that they don’t show how the cover turns the word “iPhone” into what looks like “non” - which to me says that they did not think as carefully about that as they could at the time, but realised it later on when it was too late.

Lots of details on the iPhone 5S's 'secure enclave'

Just click the 'I don't want to sign in, show me the first answer' option.

Seeing iPhone 5S, I can see why Apple decided to brand it was a lower case "s". Mind you, iPhone SS might make more sense with all the extra security built in.
