OK, I've bought the upgrade and I've been using it for two or three weeks.
I don't mind it, although I'm not thrilled about the Metro (whatever it's called) interface or the apps. It's quick to boot up and very responsive, I just can't stand the backward step of having to use keyboard shortcuts. Alt F4 to bring up the shutdown box, or a stupidly protracted journey with the mouse to close it down - wtf happened to a simple two click shutdown - yes, I know you can set up a shortcut ot download a 3rd party app, but that is NOT the point.
Also, if I just hit return instead of entering my password at startup it gets stuck in a verification loop. This thing is flawed from the get-go.
How do you close out of the marketplace with a mouse? How do you close out of the default video player or photo viewer with a mouse?
You can't! Sure, you can get out of it, but it's left running in the background unless you Alt-F4 the fcuking thing.
Despite all that, I actually don't mind it - it is just a re-skinned windows 7 afterall (it makes use of Win7 drivers), available on the cheap (for another week); and I'll be buying at least one if not two more copies very soon.
I'm a geek, so I know I'll be able to mangle this thing to do what I want, it's just sooo frustrating that it's so fundamentally flawed out of the box.

That sums up my experience in pretty good detail! I operate my media centre almost entirely by mouse. After "upgrading" to 8 it' become a lot trickier.

I just like how snappy it's made my machine. The interface has issues for me, but I only use it for a couple of apps I have on my desktop, so it's a trade I'm happy to make. Twenty something quid and it's transformed my laptop.

Just had another go win Win8 working on a new laptop.
I can work my head around it - bit of time to puzzle out where some stuff had gone - but there's no-way I could give it to one of our reps as I'd have to spend quite some time showing them stuff (time we don't have/afford as so busy).
Decided to nuke it and pop Win7 on instead.

Showed my fiance Windows 8 yesterday, she likes it a lot, finds it simpler to understand than Windows 7. I'll be upgrading her machine at the weekend.

WinXP->Win7 was a huge improvement for me (didn't bother with Vista). It felt like the same jump from Win95 to WinXP.
Windows 8: tried it on my sister's laptop (both bought the same laptops but one was Win7 and the other was Win8). Not a fan but I tend to do things in a traditional way eg I still find it easiest to hit Win+R and type winword to launch Word. I found Win8 a pain to navigate and use.
I really do think they should have kept things as "Windows Metro" for mobile devices and "Windows 7" for everything else.

Didn't know it did this in Win8 but didn't have much time with the laptop.

I was looking at them in PC world yesterday (I didn't spend any money there, I'm not mad). They're a fair sight bigger than the Apple magic trackpad and sit much flatter on the desk. I do like the size and the surface felt very tactile. Plus USB charging is a better option than AA batteries for PC peripherals IMO (I charge my magic trackpad using a Mobee induction gadget). Summary : looks a very nice bit of kit and an improvement over the apple model in pretty much every respect, although I couldn't comment on how well it actually works.

They are releasing a version for the Mac next month.

I noticed. The same but white and a tenner cheaper, which is a turnaround . Still 20 quid more than the Apple one on Logitech's site. The Mac one is bluetooth though, whereas the windows one uses their 'unity' wifi protocol. I don't see any reason why the windows one wouldn't work on a mac (or vice versa). Amazon has the black/windows one at 10 quid more than than an Apple trackpad, so in theory the Mac version would be roughly the same price as the Apple one. At the same price, I'd take the Logitech one. EDIT: Grr, my prices were wrong because it was the US logitech site (even though I'd requested the UK one) . The logitech 'mac' trackpad is actually the same price as the Apple trackpad but the black/windows one is a tenner more expensive, presumably down to having it's own USB transceiver. If I had a PC with bluetooth, I'd just buy the mac one...

Using the Samsung Series 7 Tablet with Windows 8. Much nicer than surfing with an iPad, but still not so good as using a real pc.
I installed Windows 8 on it today, which caused some problems. Samsung haven't released any drivers for it yet. Everything worked, with the exception of the touchscreen... Something pretty crucial on a tablet. In the end I managed to sort it out, the touch driver was installed , but not active, because Samsung hadn't bothered to sign them. Turning off the driver signing requirement sorted out the problem.
Thankfully the dock has a usb port, so I could attach a keyboard and mouse.
It is very interesting and the keyboard is a lot more intelligent than under iOS or Android.

Out of interest, where were you using it? I could imagine that would be good say on a coffee table but I'd have thought it would be fairly clumsy having a tablet, keyboard and mouse in your lap while sat on the sofa say. \ Not sure what you mean by this, could you explain a bit please? Do you mean it's better at predictive guessing? I've got windows 8 up and running on a fullscreen VM on my iMac. It looks fantastic on the 27" screen but I'm not sure so far there's any great USP over windows 7 tbh. I suspect though I'm not the target market.
