There isn't one. What they expect you to do is set the EQ for individual songs in iTunes (right click - get info - options tab). Touch screen pods will apply those settings when they play the song but there's no interface for setting them on the pod itself. Yes, this is as stupid as it sounds. Jon

Still waiting for my iPhone to turn up, but the iPod Touch allows you to specify the EQ mode (from a bunch of presets) from:
Einstellungen (Settings app?) -> Music -> Equalizer -> and select the mode you want (I have about 2 screens full of presets).

Cheers dave, I found it under the iPod settings.
F*cking stupid place to keep it though. It should be in the iPod application itself IMO.

Yes and no... Other applications can also play music, so it is more general, but I only stumbled onto it by accident when looking through the settings whilst bored. It does make a heck of a difference too! I had it set up for spoken word, as I was listening to lots of podcasts. Finally, after having it for 3 weeks, I got around to listening to some music and the Sennheiser headphones were distorting at around 20% volume! I switched it to classical music and they were fine... According to T-Mobile, I should now get my iPhone in the next 2-3 weeks! That's 5 weeks from the time I ordered it!

Isn't the EQ in the same place on an actual ipod as well.
I just need to work out why my 32GB iphone distorts on ringtones at full volume. My old 16GB one didn't

The setting is not under "music" it is under "iPod" which suggests that it's not system wide.

Hmm, in German it is under Musik... I think, iPod is in the car... Edit: Just double checked, it is just called "Musik" on the German versions.

Hmm, tip 7 - battery drain: Turn off Wifi and 3G if you aren't using them! Well, duh! I do that on my htc and my laptop already, are iPhone users expecting the Unicorn Tears to magically disable the bits they aren't using for them? I also switch off the BlueTooth on all my devices, when I don't need it. It is just common sense. The 3 most power hungry parts of the iPod Touch / iPhone are WiFi, 3G and BlueTooth and you can switch them on/off as you need them... Tip 10 as well, the "built-in apps can't be removed"... Moving the ones you don't want to the last page was a no-brainer, once I started downloading new apps... Tip 6. The iDisk application should sort that out, to a degree, as well. Tip 5: is true of all mail applications. Surely the solution would be to download the GMail App from Google? Oh, they don't make one? Tip 4: Another duh! But there again, I already had my contacts list on my computer, before I bought my Touch... Tip 3: Sorry, this is a smartphone, not a full computer. I use my htc and the iPod Touch for getting email on the go. I worry about cleaning up, moving etc. once I'm back at base... The programs should provide core functionality and do that core functionality well.

Gosh there are so many people hating things about the iPhone. It is a wonder that they sell any at all.

The problem is, the technorati on the Internet love the look and feel of the iPhone, but they hate the way Apple manage the App Store, especially the Google Voice apps being pulled.
Google Voice is a US only service, so it doesn't really affect us. But a lot of American bloggers and tech journalists use the service, especially when they have to review multiple 'phones. They give out their Google Voice number and all the telephones they use will ring simultaneously and, when they use the GV app, the GV telephone number will be displayed when they make an outgoing call. The problem for AT&T is that the calls eat into the free minutes they have, even if they make international calls, Google charge 2c a minute to many countries, for example, and AT&T get nothing, unless the user exceeds their monthly free minutes limit. GV also supports free SMS sending (although the recipient still has to pay for the SMS, as usual in the USA!).
The problem is, one 3rd party app was in the store since April, Phil Schiller said he couldn't wait for Google to release the official app, then, when it was released, Apple rejected it, because it duplicates iPhone features. Surely Phil Schiller should have known that, when he egged Google on to develop the app, Phil Schiller could have even fast tracked the app through the approval procedure, if he wanted (I would assume)... But Apple just did a 180° without any explanation.
THAT is what people hate about the iPhone at the moment, plus the appauling coverage and service from AT&T (no MMS, no tethering, they will both come before the end of the year, but they want an additional $60 a month for tethering (because of the data), even though the iPhone has a flat rate data contract).
Combine the exclusive tie-in to AT&T and the current shenanigins going on in the App Store evaluation process and there are a lot of disgruntled journalists (especially tech and blog oriented) who have a big voice. Joe Sixpack probably doesn't care, it is Apple and Shiny, the Apple Fanboys also don't care. Those who know about tech and are coming from platforms where there is no tie-in and they can download and install anything they want have legitimate problems with the way Apple are handling the iPhone.
Also look at the debacle in 'Frisco the week before last! A big tech journalist meet up, no AT&T coverage in most of the city, no 3G coverage, SMS messages and voice mails turning up 4 days after they were sent/made... It doesn't bode well for Apple, although it isn't their fault, directly, it is their fault for chosing one of the worst providers in the USA.

You're kind of correct, in a very trite, patronising sort of way. The average - shall we say "real" - person couldn't give a dog's left one that Apple doesn't allow app x, y or z onto the iTunes store or that it operates a closed ecosystem. Their iPhone/iPod touch works or it doesn't and that's about as far as their relationship with it goes. It's only obsessive tech geeks and link-baiters like Calacanis who whine about this stuff. And they represent about 0.00001% of the iPhone-buying public. BTW Dave, did you buy your iPhone, iPod touch and iMac because they were "Apple and shiny"? You don't have to use every OS under the sun to make an informed decision, you know.
