A mate needs to archive a lot of music.
Has anyone got any favourite recommendations for external Firewire 800 drives?
He's going to need 2 Terabytes.

Western Digital I have switched completely from Lacies to Western Digital. No problems with them at all.

I've heard bad things about the WD software required to use the e-ink display on their MyBook drives though.
Any thoughts?

I have never used their software. Just plug the buggers into a mac and they work.

Get a NewerTech Voyager Q and any internal 2TB HDD.
Seriously, it's the best bit of backing up kit I've ever used.
It has FW400, FW800, USB and eSATA connections.

Ooh that looks interesting. I'll see how he feels about it. I don't know whether this drive is likely to be a permanent feature on his desk, or if it'll be tucked away somewhere else.

It's not a particularly massive unit, so if it stays on his desk he can either have the drive permanently plugged in to it, or just remove the drive but leave the unit in situ.
It's really no wider than two internal hard drives stood on their end and facing sideways.
