Hi all,

I've got a laptop here getting the above error (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME). After a quick look it might be something to do with the file system...
The error code I'm getting is:
STOP: 0x000000ED (0x8231D900 0x0000009C x00000000)

Done a Google and can't find anything specific to that error. Anyone else had similar problems? I'm hoping to get my hands on a Win XP disk and do a repair, will this fix it?

Thanks,
Ben

Out of interest, is the volume mountable & accessible via a Live CD?

I'm thinking MBR issue, but I could be wrong. Have you tried running the Fix MBR command (via installation disc)?

The laptop belongs to my boss and he is lacking a Windows install disk, I am lacking blank CDs/USB stick to put a live distro on and have a look. I'll come in tomorrow better prepared, but just wanted to ask peoples opinions beforehand.

The numbers in the brackets are not specific, they can vary. Does this help? MS Support

Try getting a copy of Spinrite (grc.com) and running that over the disk. It usually works miracles.
