Post subject:  Monitor Problems...selectively turns on

Hi all,

I'm using a 24" Hyundai W240D. Recently it's developed a problem, which I will do my best to describe.

It's all plugged in and correct, but sometimes it won't turn on. All the buttons make the standard noise when pressed, but there's no action from the screen. If I keep flicking the switch off and on, *eventually* it will get closer and closer to turning on (first the standby light will flicker, then the monitor will flicker on but stay black, then the monitor light will turn blue (indicating it is on) but still no image, and then it will turn on completely and be fine throughout usage (if I turn it off and then on again after this stage, it turns on as normal. It will only play up again after it has been off for a while - whether the switch is left on or off, the plug is turned on or off etc).

I've tried changing the socket, the kettle lead and even the DVI cable, none makes a difference. TBH it's almost like it's not drawing enough power, but manages it in the end.

The problem is, it takes longer and longer each time this happens to convince the monitor to turn on.

Any ideas what might be wrong, or should I be calling in the priest and ordering a new one?

That fault sounds similar to the problem I had with my Acer.

I'm convinced it was an under-rated internal PSU (design fault). It got worse and worse, and after going back for repair about 5 times over 9 months I eventually copied Watchdog in on a complaint and they finally offered my money back...

I took the cash and bought a Samsung. It's awesome, and I had change to spare. Today, I'd probably choose one of the rather good Benq if I wanted value - we have two different models at work and they're very good.

I guess what I'm saying is, it's a hardware fault. If it's under warranty then get it sorted or get your money back. I think mine has a 3 year warranty, so be sure to check.

Thankfully I think (think!) it has 3-year warranty on it, and it's just within the period. It was manufactured in August 2007, and I bought it in October 2007, so I should be covered and have fired off an e-mail to Hyundai to this end. If worse comes to worst and Hyundai won't repair it, I'll be buying a Samsung too (although this monitor kicks ass!).

If you have no joy with the warranty, it might be worth looking on ebay for a spares/repairs listing and attempt to fix it yourself.
