Hi All, I'm trying to format a Mac HDD using Windows XP but when I plug it in (I'm using a USB - Sata thingy) it says it's a GPT Protective Partition and won't assign it a letter or let me access any of it. Any ideas how I can do this? |

I would have used my Mac to format the drive for Windows. ![]() |

There are times when things just don't work like that... Thanks for the link, Ollie. |

The drive hasn't been in my Mac for a few months now and I don't have a USB-Sata adapter at home. Brought the drive in to work to do it here. Anyway, seems it's fairly straight forward to remove the "protected" partition. ![]() |

Fair enough. I guessed there were reasons why the easy route wasn't followed. ![]() ![]() |

If the disk is blank I use Disk Utility on my Mac to wipe all partitions off then create an empty (unformatted) partition. Stick the drive into Windows, open the drive and follow the on screen messages to format the drive... |
