Mine arrived last Wednesday. I use it mostly on the train to and from work and so far it's been good, easy to read and to buy books for (reasoably priced as well). Would recommend it. Hope this helps. |

I am tempted to get myself one for Christmas, (or maybe my birthday) as I do need something that I can use to read pdf files... which I guess this can do? This is probably not the right thread for asking for suggestions as I haven't really looked at these gadgets, so I'll start another thread nearer the time. |

My cousin had one on holiday in Spain and she could read it in the bright sun with no problems. It wasn't too big and she had several books on there. I had a quick look and it was very easy to use and read. My colleague also has one and she loves it. |

I don't know what prices you've seen but this might be worth looking at, if a colour screen is important. From what I've seen the Kindle has a mono screen... is that right? Anyway, here's the link: LINK And it's on pre-order for £119.99. What price did you see the Kindle going for? |

A potential problem with that is that it has an LCD screen which usually means low visibility in bright light. (i.e. lots of reflections) IIRC Kindle are bringing out a colour version (not sure when/where I heard that though) and it uses E-ink which allows for good all round visibility. |

It’s about the same price for the WiFi version or abit cheaper for the standard. The kindle has gone down the route of habit, meaning if you read a book you can do it in bright sun light or with a light at night this I assume has given the result of huge battery life as the technology does rely on back lighting etc. Just wonder how much the GF would use it as she does tend to get pass-on books from family and friends. |

The wife of a guy I work with got hers last night. While he wouldn't want or need one he's been raving about the screen all day. Mark |

I've had mine for a month now and I love it. I use it mainly on the Tube on a train. I downloaded free books from Amazon that I would have never picked up in a bookstore (e.g. Decameron from Jovanni Boccacio or Crime and punishment from Dostoyevskiy) I took it with me on my holiday, transfered pdfs that I needed (diving computer manual, insurance policy details and terms etc.) Screen is brilliant and battery lasts forever. What else could you want from a ebook reader? |

Then you don't want an ebook reader, you want a tablet ![]() Black and white Kindle display provides long battery life, doesn't produce eye strain and is probably lighter and cheaper. I am pretty sure that making Kindle in colour would mean losing these benefits. |

I had been thinking much the same thing, (about the tablet) but how long is it going to take for battery technology to come up with something that would enable us to have a colour Kindle? |

That may have something to do with the size and the weight of the ipad. Kindle is much smaller and lighter and you can't just pack it with massive batteries. Also LCD is not appropriate solution for Kindle... |
