Post subject: | Very strange auto shutdown for 2 pcs on LAN |
Hi all, I look after my sister's small business' IT - she has couple of PCs running XP in her office. They rent the basement from the owners of the building - an estate agent, which has maybe 20 PCs in the rest of the building. They share a LAN, have been allocated some IP addresses, and have access to the Internet through the LAN, and a couple of their own printers on it too. For some months now, every Monday, both machines shut themselves down. Quietly, properly, no blue screen, no crash, no warning, and loss of all open data. It happens at either 11.03, 13.03, or yesterday for the first time 15.03. No messages appear, they always startup again fine, and the IT support for the estate agent says there's no network shutdown being issued at that time and anyway, they're not in that domain, so how could they accept a request from a server? AntiVirus current and up to date, Spyware scans report nothing untoward, there's no other sign of anything wrong, but it happens every Monday and on no toerh day, and I can't figure it out. Windows firewall is on, they have passwords, it's very very strange. What the hell could be doing this? One of them has just been factory reset and reinstalled from the HP recovery DVDs since it was painfully slow, but now it's fine, and the other one has XP which has been running for just over a couple of years. I can't figure this out. Any ideas? Thanks, D |

Anything in the event log? It usually has a message corresponding to the shutdown request. |
