I am looking for a multi-user password safe...

Scenario:

We have lots of customers, whose systems we need to access. Each customer has their own password and certain people in support and development need access to certain customers' passwords.

We need a was to centrally manage the passwords, let those who need passwords easily get hold of those, that they are allowed to see, whilst not letting others see the passwords. So, if we need to quickly change a password, the relevant users have access to the new password, when they need it.

Apart from a bunch of envelopes in a safe, anyone got any ideas?

What level of security is required? Are all the users requiring access on the same domain?

We simply use an access database which only certain users are authorised to view; other users are blocked by the file permissions.

All on the same domain.

The problem is, people supporting Customer A are not allowed to see Customer B's password and vice versa, but people supporting A, B and C must see all 3 etc.

surely this can be done with simple folders with permissions set?

Put users into the right group, set permission on folder.

I suppose that is an option... Setting up groups and rights is something I have to do anyway...

I'm sure you could put together a professional looking php intranet site, possibly linking into AD with LDAP.

Or you could just use Notepad and folder permissions

The main issue with simply using permissions is whether all administrators can be trusted? Also, you need to be careful with who can access backups.

I'm in the process of migration 250 odd sites the largest of which has a site collection of 1 Tb.

That's 10 times the recommended maximum size. 8-)
