Hmm would've preferred Puma myself. Making OS look more like iPad. I quite liked that they were different. http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/

You could see it coming. The App Store being a good test bed for people’s approaches to buying software. It obviously works, so why not port it to the Mac. I was expecting some kind of iOS layer - but this seems more integrated than I thought it would be. The Mission Control layer and the launcher are pretty much that.
This is all lovely eye candy and Mac porn for the media to get excited about. I am hoping that there will be more lower level stuff which will make Lion a serious contender to replace Snow Leopard.

I'm hoping they will replace some of the Carbon stuff that is still bundled with OSX - DVD player, Front Row & iTunes for instance.
I'm also hoping for TRIM support...
Hopefully these details will creep out through the usual channels over the next few months.

I wouldn't expect iTunes to go Cocoa. Too much legacy code to do with it being cross platform. The rest.. possibly, although I suspect the new shiny stuff is higher priority than 'fixing' things that are old and crap but at least do work like DVD player. Front row definitely needs a revamp, especially with the Mac Mini now pretty much designed to be a media PC.
Of the stuff they've talked about so far, the app store is a 'meh', the iOS based 'improvements' don't really do anything for me and Mission Control looks useful. There'd have to be a hell of a lot more to it if they want to charge any money for it mind.

I do not use Front Row. If it were more useful then maybe I would. i can do everything I need manually without it. As for iTunes maybe that is why it is so bloated on the Windows version. By updating iTunes and even splitting it so that they can clear it up it might make much more sense If the windows version was immeasurably better it would improve the perception of the company's other products. I have namely which can tidy up the dock completely. I could delete everything apart from Fonder and Dashboard. So while it is useful it is nothing extra over what I have now.

http://blog.hashbang0.com/2010/10/24/mac-os-10-7/Some of my thoughts on Lion. I will buy it, and I guess I'll like it. Apple haven't released an OS since 2006 that I thought "wow, what a piece of sh*t", I've always been very enthusiastic about the changes.

Puma was version 10.1 - at least internally, it was only really with 10.2 Jaguar that they started publicly referring to it by the cat names, but 10.1 was codenamed Puma. OS X VersionsPublic Beta: "Kodiak" Version 10.0: "Cheetah" Version 10.1: "Puma" Version 10.2: "Jaguar" Version 10.3: "Panther" Version 10.4: "Tiger" Version 10.5: "Leopard" Version 10.6: "Snow Leopard" Version 10.7: "Lion" Makes you wonder what 10.8 and 10.9 will be called, kind of running out of cat names now!

There are plenty of other cats, Ocelot, just for one. Then there are cat breeds like manx or mexican hairless, for the Evil version.

I'd hate to be in the Marketing Department the day Steve Jobs decides the next version is going to be called 'Mac OS X : Mexican Hairless'. Jon

Strictly speaking, after Lion, they've covered all the big cats.
