So my computer doesn't want to play nicely today. Or, more accurately, Windows 7 doesn't.

I boot up the computer as normal, to be presented with a black screen and the message "this copy of Windows is not genuine" - er, it [LIFTED] well is then!!!

After pressing the "kiss Steve Ballmer's ass online" button I was invited to download an "update" to the "validation tool" built into Windows which would fix any dodgy registries etc. Things seem OK so far, but here's hoping it doesn't happen again at the next reboot.

Now I've just got to convince MSE, MS Office etc I'm not a paedophile too. Bastard Microsoft! :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

This has happened to a friend of mine, It does have problems even with genuine licenses. He upgraded on top of XP and it worked for a few days before failing.

Laptop I occasionally use in work decided that both the install of Win 7 and Office weren't legit - despite being covered by the IT dept. licensing.
This was a week old install that had been activated at another site and brought in to our office. I'm not sure what the issue was ultimately.

I had a laptop last week that suddenly declared its Win7 wasn't legit despite there being a proper Microsoft licence key on its base

Happened straight after installing some Win7 updates so I wonder if that triggered something?

Anyways a phone call to their automated line got it reactivated no problem - just a pain in the a**e
