Looks like I might be getting one as my company phone - that or a new 3GS, to match my private one... Telekom said yesterday, that it is a bit expensive, but I'm hoping that I can get it, as I don't need to carry 2 iPhones around with me...

I've always liked the Omnia, but I have to say, looks-wise, the Omnia 7 is a definite step backwards from the Omnia II.

I prefer the more squared look of the Omnia 7, the II looks a little "old fashioned" now.

Still no Samsungs in the shops here... Had a play with the new htc HD7, it is very nice. I'm very tempted - or I could get the Mozart as my work 'phone.

It is very responsive and makes my iPhone feel old and outdated. The "hub" concept is very intuitive and easy to use.

Grrr! Boss wanted an iPhone 4, so I was supposed to order it on my new contract (company mobile) and get his old 3GS, but T-Mobile have already sent out a Mozart and I couldn't get an iPhone on the contract anyway, as it is the wrong sort of contract.

Still, I get WP7, so that is still good.

htc Mozart turned up today.

The iPhone user in my office was impressed with it.

Looks good so far, although I've hit 2 minor snags...

1. Audible told Windows Weekly, that they would be launching a WP7 app for the beginning of November, new report says they haven't even started! :(

2. We have a self-signed certificate on the work server and WP7 is refusing to connect, even after exporting the certificate from the server and loading it onto the phone...

Other than that, I'm very impressed. The phone itself is much nicer to use than the iPhone.

So far, so good. I'm very impressed with the device. The screen is much better than the 3GS - I tried a 4G and didn't really notice any difference between it and the 3GS next to it, I was expecting a real difference between them, when looking at them, but it wasn't as noticeable as the press made out ; but I only used it without SIM car and no apps installed, so it was only home screen and default contacts etc. so hardly conclusive.

Audio quality is streets ahead of the iPhone - both the built in speakers (not a surprise, given that the Mozart has Dobly Mobile and SRS optimisation and decent speakers) and through the headphone socket. I tried it in the car last night, I usually plug in my iPhone and the sound is a little blunt and not very clear, the sound level is a little low, with the htc 7 Mozart, the sound was clear and much louder than from the iPhone - using the same podcasts. The same today, when I used the headphones - I use the same Panasonic headphones on both devices, and again, the sound was a lot clearer from the htc than the iPhone.

The screen is bright and clear. The touch interface is very smooth and works very well. It didn't take long to get used to. Everything was fairly logical. The higher resolution of the screen makes itself felt, I don't need to zoom as often as with the iPhone - I believe the 4G is much the same.

After synchronising my private contacts in Outlook with Live.com, they were on my phone, much like MobileMe, only free.

It has the same free naviation software as my iPhone - Navigon SE, which T-Mobile provides to all its customers.

I haven't been able to test the integration with Facebook, which is supposed to be good, as I deleted my Facebook account in disgust earlier this year.

The case of the htc is very nice, metal and solid, it makes the iPhone 3GS feel cheap. The camera is also streets ahead of the 3GS, and the Flash could be useful, although I tend to use a proper camera more often than the phone.

Downsides:

The micro-USB connector is on the side, so no docking cradle can be used.

Windows Phone 7 is too safe, it knows that the certificate on our mail server belongs to a different domain to the one I am contacting it over and it refuses to connect - even after manually installing the certificate. That is nice, but I like the iPhone's option to ignore this danger and connect regardless.

The Zune search utility doesn't search by category, when I search in the apps section of the market place, it throws up music, videos and social matches as well! :( Although iTunes does exactly the same thing.

Are you sure about this? My BB has the connector on the side but I do have a cradle, the phone is horizontally arranged in it.

How good is the email integration? Do you get push email with major providers? How long does it take for email to arrive? How well does it synchronise with email box?

It "just works" with Live.com, Google Mail, Yahoo and Exchange Server - although you need to ensure that your certificates are correct (if you use SSL - if not, why aren't you?), it is "too" secure, if you have a botched SSL certificate, it will refuse to connect.

As to how quick - you can go from manual down to push. Push works as fast as your connection. Sometimes the mail appears on my 'phone before it appears in Outlook, other times it is a couple of seconds behind Outlook...

Edit: All synchronisation is now via the mail server. If you have an old POP3 account, you can't sync from the desktop to the phone... IMAP is the minimum, EAS (which Google etc. use these days) is needed for syncing contacts, calendars etc.
