Hi all,

I've got a PC here at work with Outlook 2007 on. Whenever the system is booted and Outlook starts it syncs with the Google server via IMAP but only gets to 68%, then all communications seem to freeze up, Outlook stays active, but email isn't viewable and there seems to be no data communication with the server.

Oddly, a workaround is to start in safe mode, open Outlook, then restart the computer into normal mode, this allows Outlook to open and sync 100% with the server. Outlook can then be closed and opened as many times as you like without getting the same problem.
When you shutdown at night, the problem comes back the next morning...

I've not had a proper look at it yet, I'll likely not get a chance until about 13:00 today, but has anyone seen anything like this before? And does anyone know, or could suggest some way of fixing it?

Many thanks,
Ben

It'll be a plugin in Outlook hanging, usually either AV or bloody Google

There are no plug-ins, and I've tried disabling AV (AVG Free) to no avail...

I've removed the stuff under C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
And that seems to have sorted it, the archive.pst file was nearing 3GB...

I believe you're mistaking it for Lotus Notes.

I've not tried Lotus Notes, but I'm not a fan of Outlook, I'm surprised MS haven't tried to shove Word, Excel, and PowerPoint into it, they've already crammed in an address book and a calendar. Integration is nice, but it doesn't have to be a mail client with other features tacked on...

They have.

Sometimes I open an email in Outlook, and when I close Outlook it asks if I want to save my Word default document template because it's changed. This is not a virus; this is Office. Word is the default email editor, with all it's associated flaws...
