Has anyone here done a repair? I broke mine, and I'm thinking of a DIY replacement. The vids on youtube look okay, but I'd like to hear from someone who has done it how it went. |

Feck, that must hurt ![]() I've been terrified of breaking my new phone since I got it; almost to the point of not wanting to take it outside! </unconstructive post> |

Cool. I'm surprised at how cheap some of the glass and digitiser products are on eBay. This one for example is less than a tenner! What did your friend pay for hers, and do you know who the seller was? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/REPLACEMENT-DIGIT ... 3099wt_907 |

I think she paid about £12 for glass & digitiser and it certainly looked / fitted like an original part. If it was 3rd party it was a damn good one! It also came with a little bag of tools that made the job a bit easier .. correct size screwdriver / soft spudger / guitar plectrum ??? etc. Sorry but I dont know who the actual seller was but I can ask & see if she can find it on her ebay account - she is away until after new year though so if you can wait i'll come back to you with the info ASAP. Thanks didge ![]() I've ordered the part now, so it should be here relatively soon. It looks like a pretty simple part to replace so hopefully it won't take long. ![]() |

Are all digitizers equal though? My neice got a cheap Android tablet fro Xmas (dont ask!) and it's some chinese no-name thing. Dad picked that one as it had a 10 inch screen when I begged him to got for a better but smaller 7 inch branded model. Oh well size matters and all that. Where was I.... Oh yeah. So the touchscreen is basically crap. It works but is very unresponsive to finger presses and they have to revert to using a stylus from a phone or DS. |

That sounds like a resistive screen. Capacitive ones are more sensitive to the finger, but do not work at all with a plastic stylus. |

Well that's it - all done and a nice shiny good as new screen which is 100% as good as the original. All for £6.58 and a little bit of effort - the hardest part was driving to Staples for double sided tape! ![]() |

Well I was a bit dubious at first, and even looked into the possibility of a glue. The original is held in with tape, although it's probably a little stronger than mine. If it falls out I will post it in the fail thread! ![]() |

Well done. The kit i bought came with the tape, cut to the correct shape to fit around the board etc. Still holding firm 4 months later. Didge. |

Well, today a strip of the touch screen on my phone has stopped working. Unfortunately it's the horizontal strip right where dialogue boxes require a tap to dismiss them. Bugger. At first I thought it might be my repair, and that perhaps a cable had come loose or something - but upon further investigation on the web this seems to be a really common problem, caused by drops. I did drop my phone shortly before noticing that the touch screen had stopped working properly (when I initially picked it up I just unlocked it and locked it again to check). I'm doing a restore at the moment with faint hope that it might solve the problem, but I'm not expecting much... |

Even without knowing anything about the iPhone, I have to say it sounds typical of a misalignment caused by knocking. On most devices, taking it to bits and putting it back together again very very carefully is the cure. It totally depends on the construction though. Do you have some sticky tape left? |
