I'm asking here, as I'm asking everywhere else at the moment.

(Yes, I have spent an hour or more vainly searching for simple answers on t'interwebz to no avail.)

I have a Snow Leopard disc here in front of me. I want to install it and get on with my life. One thing holds me back: fonts.

As many of you know I have a large and rambling collection of fonts, mostly PostScript Type 1s, with a few OpenTypes and TrueTypes acquired over the years. Currently I use Linotype's free Font Explorer X to manage things, but that software is no longer supported.

So:

1. Is LT Font Explorer X compatible with OS X 10.6.x? Can I simply upgrade my OS and carry on as before?
2. If Font Explorer is not compatible, does anyone have any ideas how I can reset my system to the standard OS fonts and remove FE before upgrading to Snow Leopard?
3. Can I use Font Book to manage the fonts, even if I don't "reset" Font Explorer before upgrading the OS?

I don't actually think I need a font manager as such any more, so I'd be happy to fall back on Font Book for most things. All I'm after is some pointers to stuff I need to be aware of so when I press "install" on Snow Leopard it will be a simple, pain-free and easy experience.

Ta.

Well, there's a new version of Font Explorer X that is compatible with Snowy here.

I don't know if that helps?

Thanks, Gavin. Sadly, that requires money - and a server edition.

I've heard that my current version does kind of work under Snow Leopard, but I'm more inclined to stop using it altogether.

Someone elsewhere has suggested a clean installation of SL, and then migrate apps and stuff over.

This idea is appealing. Presumably I can migrate from the old system or Time Machine?

I don't know what version you're running, but wouldn't it be worth ringing them up or dropping them an email to find out?

It wouldn't, Alex. It's the freebie version, which has not been officially supported for something like two years.

I'm leaning towards the clean install and migration right now.
