Right so the pc I built for my dad last year has slowed over the last few months and I was wondering would there be a speed increase with a fresh install of windows 7 than an 18 month copy of vista. I suspect so but I don't want to waste a load of time on doing it.

If the PC is a bit long in the tooth then there will be a noticeable improvement. If the PC is quite new & powerful, with an i5 or i7, then probably not so much. Windows 7's minimum requirements are a bit lower, but I didn't notice much of a difference on my i7.

It really won't make much difference, the desktop will appear a bit quicker ('cos Windows 7 is programmed to do so), but otherwise performance will be almost identical.
