Lo childs, I'm looking to buy a FW adapter. I have a FW 800 compact flash card reader but my recently purchased 12" PowerBook only has FW 400, so I'd like a small adapter that I can plug the 800 cable in to that'll enable me to use the 400 port on the laptop. I'm not looking for a 400-800 cable, what I'd ideally like is the exact adapter that this image shows, but I've searched with no luck finding one. Mark

Silly question: does Calumet stock one? Edit: try typing "Firewire adaptor" into Amazon... Edited edit: If you have a PC card slot on the PowerBook, I have a Firewire one which has FW800 on it. Yours if you want it.

I saw that one, but it's the wrong way round. Mark wants 800 to 400, not 400 to 800.

I'm pretty sure that's 800 to 400.
My bad, sorry!

Well, it's 400 female to 800 male, according to the photos. *shrug*

Yeah, I just actually enlarged the photo, which I should have done in the beginning!

I was getting all excited about having found one for the Rockin' Egg Dude, but then realised he's probably done the same search as we did. No card slot? Boo! What about a hub? I don't think they need to be powered.

Hmm, seems to be male to male.
The issue is the card reader has a 800, male which needs adapting to 400 female. I wonder why the manufacturers don't have that combo?

I have no idea. I thought it was funny how it wasn't male/female. Quite strange this.

I don't know, but it's bloody infuriating. I've found this, which is the closest match to what I want. Mark

My usual route from there is (a) see if they ship to the UK; (b) Google the part number in the UK to see if anyone else stocks it. I wish I could help further. http://www.mkcables.com/They appear to offer a bespoke service to make a cable to fit your requirements. Might be worth a look.

I've found one, but I don't think they ship worldwide. I think I'll nip in to an electronics store when I'm in the U.S. on holiday and see if I can get one there. Mark
