I need to find a USB3 capable hard drive - storage around 1Tb-2Tb - BUT must not have any software pre-installed on it - or if it does then software we can wipe via formatting the drive. Most I have looked at have software pre-installed ![]() This Lacie might be ok? http://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?pid=11560 Any other suggestions? |

Had a thought. Would getting an external USB hard drive caddy work instead? Something like this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/newlink- ... -enclosure and then get a Samsung F3 to go in it? |

Will be used to take a nightly backup using Acronis Server. Currently this is working to a networked external hard drive - a Lacie - but seems to be a permissions issue as we can restore files/folders on the fly ok but when we try to validate the image it says it is corrupted ![]() |

I have a Sharkoon hot swap thing that does USB2 and eSATA. I'm sure there's a USB3 version and it's piss easy to use. I think it's probably a little early to be getting mature USB3 externals. |

If it's a backup, what's wrong with USB 2? My raid is esata, but backed up to a drive with FireWire. |

USB2 is way too slow as we backup around 750Gb data a night ![]() Had an Iomega USB3 hard drive arrive this morning and Acronis backed up 1 server fine and also said validation was ok so looks like we might have a winner/solution. Anyone want 6 x Lacie 2Tb - going cheap! |

Crikey, is that a complete backup? I just backup modified files for that reason and do a complete backup at the weekend. |

750Gb is about the size of doing images of all the servers - which is one reason we need 2Tb hard drives! Looked at doing incremental but the company prefers a full backup is always done every day and taken off-site. |

Well the Lacie's are these ones http://www.dabs.com/products/lacie-2tb- ... s=52910000 Gonna check to see if the USB3 Iomega has worked tomorrow when get in to work - if it has then boss will tell me to sell these 6 lacie's. Would need bit of data cleaning off and resetting their network to "auto" as have fixed IP at moment. Got power lead, USB cable and CD for them but the boxes they came in went out to recycling when they were set up around 3-4 weeks ago. As you can see from the link they are like £120 new so looking for around £90 incl. postage. |

Probably a bit of an over kill just to use as a Time Machine box. ![]() And I'm meant to be saving for other things... |
