Hi all,

I have a video file my sister made and she wants to put it on a dvd, it's currently in an m4v format, is there any way I can easily do this on my Mac? Our DVD player doesn't play individual files, so it's got to be a proper DVD disk...

Thanks all :)

Ben

Can you not convert it to mp4 using Handbrake and then make a DVD with it in iMovie?

(I'm researching for my own needs!)

Cheers Paul, it turns out she only wanted to watch it on the TV, so I hooked my Mac up instead...

Gav, I usually rip DVD's using Handbrake, though in this instance whatever she used to create the video pumped it out as an m4v file. I'm sure I've tried iMovie before and failed...Maybe I was doing something wrong though...

The new Handbrake chucks out .m4v files doesn't it? They're just MPEG 4.
Toast would have done it as well. Just don't be surprised if the quality has dropped after re-encoding it again.

Handbrake lets you choose the file type, usually either MP4 or M4V.

There's not difference between them, apart from the m4v is iTunes friendly, should you want to watch stuff in iTunes. Or sync it to your iPod, I guess.

If you have the Sony PlayTV box connected to your PS3, Or MPEG Stream Clip can be used to convert those recordings into an iTunes friendly file.
