I've been asked to build a fairly small ecommerce site for a client and just wondered if anybody had any recommendations? The free options on my reseller hosting account are zen cart, os commerce, Cube Cart and Agora. I had a look at zen cart, but it didn't seem that easy to use. I believe it's a spin off of os commerce reading the web about it, so I haven't looked at that yet. Just installed Cube Cart and it seems fairly basic and might do what I want, though the basic design doesn't look that slick, so it's going to be a case of how customisable it is visually. I've heard that Magento is pretty good, but as I'd be using the open source version, I don't know how easy it is for a beginner to use as I wouldn't be paying for the support. Just wondered if anybody had any experience/recommendations really. |

I've heard lots of good things about Magento, too, but mostly from people who know about interwebz-y stuff so I'm not sure how user-friendly it is. Have a play and see what you can get done in an hour? I'd do that with anything that's up for serious consideration. Disclaimer: I know a few people who have set up a Magento Dev company so they're obviously biassed, but lots of people seem to like it. |

Well, it seems pretty good, so I may well give it a shot. Currently having a play with CubeCart and that seems to be pretty good so far. |

I find that Virtuemart is great and does everything I need (especially as it'll link in to joomla) http://virtuemart.net/ |

That looks interesting. I'll see if it stands alone as I don't use joomla. It's something I ought to learn really, but so far I've found CMS made simple has fitted my needs so far. |

I heard this morning from a friend that os commerce is rubbish. I'm about to build a friend's website (just as an exercise and hopefully one he'll actually use) using joomla. Messed around a bit with it in the past. From what I've seen the basics are fairly basic but you can dig down into the more advaced stuff also. |

In the end I've gone for cubecart 4 which is about a hundred quid. Seems good enough for my needs without having to spend ages learning new stuff! |
