Before I open a can of worms at work and get an ear-full of IT gobbledigook, is it at all possible for me, (a 2K SP4 user) to connect from home to my workstation (on XP64) at work so I can work remotely?

I'm asking since my "in-my-own-time-at-home-training" has taken a bit of nosedive with us constantly updating our office software, and a reliance upon on-server files; and so I'm thinking I might ask to have our IT outfit fix me up. It'd benefit both the company and me so there's no real question there - it's just whether or not it's even worth asking from an IT/network kind of standpoint.

What do you mean by "connect to" - access file shares, RDP, both, or something different?

File shares won't be a problem, not sure about RDP but I'd imagine it would be okay. Does the company already have a VPN system in use?

So this is where I've been getting myself into bother already - not using the correct tech. speak and so finding myself in "networking 1.01" chats... which of course, I've never listened to, so keep repeating the same mistakes.

"connect to" - as in, (I think) RDP - ie. leave my work computer on when I leave, login in from home, and "control" the workstation remotely - using the software/the server access etc, as if I were there.

We have VPN setup for our directors (who insist on never being without or too detached) but isn't that typically for server folder access, rather than remote controlling workstations? :?

You could either VPN to the office then RDP to your machine.

or

install logmein on your work PC & access it over a webpage

or

install teamviewer on your work PC and teamviewer in

or

see if you've got terminal server setup at work

or

see if you've got SBS and use remote web workspace
