Post subject:  Mobo & BIOS issues - SOLVED

Well my MoBo (gigabyte K8n-Sli – socket 939) decided to throw a wobbly at the weekend
When my PC starts up the BIOPS states that the backup BIOS is corrupt and goes through a loading BIOS, verifying and then back to the “start” screen.

So have
- Removed CMOS battery
- Shorted out CMOS jumpers
Still no joy.
Have bought a new battery and will try that over the next day or so
Oh yes pressing “DEL” to get into the BIOS etc does no good – it still goes through the above loop
If that fails not sure other than a new mobo what I can do. Socket 939 are getting a bit rare

When one of my older boards started having fits, random bios goings on and so on, replacing the battery actually did the trick. Worth trying before anything else.

Well I am blaming SWMBO. She normally has a Girls night on a Tuesday – allowing me to catch up on TV I have recorded that she doesn’t like and then is out on a wed – anyway this week she stayed in and then she does insist in us sitting together, chatting etc – I’m mean the cheek of it!! ;)

replacing the BIOS battery in my Socket A Athlon XP helped when that stared throwing a wobbly, most of them use a round flat watch battery-type thing :)

Battery replaced - no change - still cycling through the
BIOS corrupt, re-installing from backup etc etc

so next steps

will take out all the memory, HD etc and see if there is nothing attached if that does it

if not then it might be a new Mobo or maybe a new PC - well its 6 ish years old

Why not bypass and boot with a USB/floppy and flash that way? Or would it not let you?

Edit: Ah but then you'd have to change boot order in the bios :? . Mind you don't older systems, unless altered, look for an A: drive to start off with?

Indeed they do - the order that this is set for is HDD, CDROM

It does not have a floppy drive
