Post subject:  Removing duplicates in iTunes!

Hi - I recently replaced my PC - transferred all my music files across using a USB HDD, installed iTunes, ran it, and all my files were duplicated in iTunes as the HDD was still connected  I've tried reinstalling iTunes (with the external HDD disconnected  ) but the problem persists. I think I may have missed a config file somewhere in the uninstall. I'd rather not spend ages deleting every other entry in iTunes - anyone any ideas how to remove the duplicates please?

ITunes has an built in mechanism to get rid of duplicates, but I've found it to be pretty poor.

I would suggest deleting the .XML library file, and allowing it to rebuild, but I don't know where it's stored on a PC.

I'm sure somebody will soon be along to help more. :)

Um, remove external hard drive, delete all the entries in iTunes (without deleting the files themselves) and then get iTunes to search the computer again. Simples

Simples indeed! Thanks so much - a totally straightforward and obvious solution. Worked a treat. Slight  for not thinking it through myself.

Many thanks,

David.
