Hmm... I would be very tempted to go for one of these over my current model.

The one I have at the moment I bought in October 2007. Since then I have replaced the battery twice and for the past year the battery has been useless as the second I pull the power the laptop shuts off.

It's also beginning to show it's age when playing iPlayer in HD and other similar apps.

I wonder what I could get for my current one at CEX?

What’s this? Booting from ROM type OS handling? Is Apple finally catching up with what Acorn were doing in the late 1980s?

I really slowed down boot times on my Archimedes by installing a hard drive and putting some system files and fonts on it. It still booted faster than my Performa did.

Lol, I'd forgotten about that.

My acorn a3000 had no hdd.

Booted in about 10 - 20 secs iirc.

The downside was that OS updates had to be on ROM, which meant that they had to be pretty rock solid and tested to death before they could be let out. Once they started shipping them with HDs built in, newer system software could be stores in !System which would override that in ROM. I think my Archimedes (A305 with lots of RAM) took 30 seconds to a minute to boot with the a populated !Fonts folder and extra stuff in !System.

The benefit to all of this was that if your HD did die, you still had a bootable machine.

And the iPad 2 might be announced.
And the iPad 2 might be released in the summer now.
And the iPad 3 might make an appearance before the end of the year.
And .Mac might be free or half-price.
Don't forget the iPhone 5 will blow your socks off. Literally.
Erm, any other rumours I've missed?

Oh, oh, Apple buying Nokia.

Erm …

How’s Steve these days? Must be feeling better as it appears to be business as usual on the rumour front.

That .Mac will stay the same price but will get some idea of a 'media storage cloud' added to it that means you'll be able to play all your music and view your movies anywhere, on anything. An idea so vague and wooly even the analyst who originally made it up didn't seem to have much conviction about it.

If I had the cash I'd happily splash out on a new iMac and a MBP. :(
