Similar concept as ipod touch v iphone.

Do people still buy dedicated media players? I can't see the point myself as most smart phones can easily replace them. Why carry two devices that do the same thing?
The only reason that comes to my mind is if you want to combine two different platforms: maybe have an iphone and galaxy media player to take the advantage of strengths of both. Or maybe have a Blackberry for communication/messaging and galaxy player for multimedia, possibly tethered for connectivity...

My iPod clone hasn't even been charged up for years. Even my old Nokia was pretty much as good, and my new phone pisses all over it.

I'm not a great fan of convergence devices. I have a separate iPod for music and podcasts, chiefly because it's got much more storage space than my phone.

My phone is a PoS Nokia, which boasts all manner of "features", none of which actually work as advertised as far as I can tell. The actual storage space available to the phone is ±2GB, including the extra card! I can't afford, and frankly don't really need, a "better" smartphone, and as far as I can tell none of the phones currently on the market have the capacity to store everything my iPod does. It's an 80GB hard disk Classic. It does one thing well enough, and gets used far more than my phone does!

Surely just carrying a spare battery would be cheaper, easier and more flexible? It would allow you to keep the phone running for twice as long, regardless of whether you played with it. I can change the battery on my phone faster than I could plug the headphones into a different device :lol:

Firstly, I would worry about losing the battery, or it degrading through being exposed to dirt etc.

Secondly, my phone takes a full five minutes to boot up from cold. Not ideal.

Finally, RIM batteries aren't cheap.

EDIT: Also, how would I charge it outside of the phone?

The more I use my Samsung phone the more I hate it, so I sure as hell don't store music on it other than ringtones, lest I give the PoS what it deserves... Never again will I buy one of their phones :evil:

Cheap Sansa Fuze (Sandisk) FTW! Though they appear to have ruined the latest version with 'swipe' touch controls :x

At first, it seemed to suit my needs, but then you'd notice stupid little things that got to be really annoying. You can't just immediately jump to your text messages when you arrive at the home screen, you have to wait for them to initialise or some sh1t. I've used £20 mobile phones years ago that were loaded with messages that never had to do that.

You tap the touch screen and get nothing, so you tap it again only to find it was still processing the original tap, and you've now opened something you didn't want. It actually seems to be getting slower even though there's nothing running in the background and I've taken as much unnecessary stuff off it as possible.

There's a function that asks if I want the phone to power itself on when switched off for the alarm to sound - unless I'm missing something there, what friggin' use is it if it doesn't switch itself on?!

Oh yes, the alarm stores the time and days you previously wanted it to activate on, yet somehow forgets the tone and volume you last used :roll:

I can remove some of the utterly useless widgets from the side bar, but not others. I can change the home screen image from a choice of three, but if you do that by accident (like when trying to tap the tiny little 'read text' box), you'll flick images, and it isn't intelligent enough to re-display the box... I could go on, but I won't bore you any further :(

Very similar to the S5600 I had then. The widget thing certainly. Put me off Samsung entirely.

Well, it certainly feels that way when you slide open the keyboard to type out a text. It's supposed to automatically jump to a blank text message. Sometimes it works...
